How to design and select PW series precision planetary gearboxes

The selection of PW series precision planetary reducers should be based on the reduction ratio, output torque, input speed, installation form, and accuracy requirements, combined with load conditions and spatial layout for system matching.

1. Determine core performance parameters

Reduction ratio (i): calculated based on the speed of the driving motor and the required output speed. The PW series supports first to fourth level transmission, with a wide range of reduction ratios, such as 3-10 for the first level, 9-64 for the second level, and 60-512 for the third level.

Output torque: The PW series has a rated output torque of up to 27500Nm (such as the PW420 model). It is necessary to ensure that the selected model's rated torque T2N covers the maximum working torque of the equipment and leaves a safety margin.

Input speed: Different models have different maximum input speeds. For example, PW215 can reach 3000rpm, while PW360/PW420 has 2000rpm, which needs to be matched with the highest motor speed.

2. Verify the mechanical load-bearing capacity

Cantilever load: Check the radial force (Fr) and axial force (Fa) on the output shaft to ensure that they do not exceed the allowable values. For example, PW420 has a maximum radial force of 38000N and a maximum axial force of 28000N.

Backlash: For high-precision applications such as robots and detection equipment, precision grade should be selected, and the backlash can be as low as ≤ 1 arc minute.

Anti torsional rigidity: The PW series has strong anti torsional rigidity, such as PW420 reaching 592.4 Nm/arcmin, suitable for high dynamic response scenarios.

3. Structural and installation compatibility

Installation method: Supports multiple input/output configurations, such as shaft input (OP1), motor direct connection (OP2), hollow shaft expansion sleeve (K1), etc.

Space layout: Optional right angle planetary gearbox (orthogonal axis) to save space and change output direction.

Interface size: The output shaft size (such as M8, Φ 120) must be completely matched with the load end connecting components. It is recommended to request installation drawings for verification.

4. Application scenario adaptation suggestions

High precision automation (such as CNC machine tools and robots): Low backlash and high rigidity models are preferred, and PWF series or products with precision grade markings are recommended.

Heavy duty continuous operation (such as packaging machinery and logistics equipment): Pay attention to heat dissipation design and lubrication life. The PW series uses synthetic grease, IP65 protection, and supports lifelong maintenance free.

Customization requirements: Some manufacturers support non-standard customization, including appearance, interface, reduction ratio, etc., suitable for special working conditions.
