What are the common fault phenomena of overload protection for BWD series planetary cycloidal pinwheel reducer

1、 Abnormal fever and high temperature alarm

This is the most intuitive protection signal for overload. Under rated load, the temperature rise of the gearbox housing should usually be controlled within 45 ℃. If the following situations occur, it indicates that overload thermal protection has been triggered:

Surface hot: The operating temperature rises sharply, and if the temperature rises above 50 ℃, the machine needs to be stopped immediately for inspection. If it exceeds 80 ℃, it can easily cause damage to internal parts.

Associated motor heating: Long term overload operation can cause the supporting motor to overheat and even burn out the coil.

2、 Abnormal noise and vibration

Overload impact will damage the internal precision meshing and produce obvious abnormal noise:

Periodic abnormal noise: usually caused by wear and tear of the cycloidal gear and needle teeth, broken teeth, or damage to the eccentric sleeve and rotating arm bearings.

Irregular impact sound: If internal components (such as needle gear sleeves, cycloidal gear fragments) break due to overload and circulate in the oil pool, they will jam the gear train, causing serious grinding and impact sounds.

Severe vibration of the entire machine: Overloading can cause damage to the dynamic balance or loosening of the base bolts, leading to abnormal shaking of the entire machine.

3、 Weak output or abnormal speed

When the load exceeds the rated range, the transmission efficiency will significantly decrease:

Unable to move the load: manifested as a significant decrease in speed when under load, and even inability to start.

Internal slippage: The pin shaft or sleeve slips due to overload wear, or the cycloidal gear and needle teeth are misaligned, resulting in insufficient output torque.

4、 Stuck or unable to drive

This is the most severe manifestation of overload failure:

Difficulty in manual turning: If the input shaft cannot be manually rotated, or there are obvious "dead points" and uniform/irregular resistance during rotation, it indicates that the internal bearings have been damaged (such as roller collapse), or broken fragments have stuck the gear train.

5、 Oil leakage and seal failure

Overload can cause abnormal increase in internal pressure:

Joint surface or shaft end oil leakage: Overloading impact may cause slight deformation of the shell, or cause a sharp increase in internal air pressure, breaking the oil seal and sealing ring, resulting in oil leakage.

6、 Maintenance and troubleshooting suggestions

In response to the above phenomenon, it is recommended to focus on the following points in daily maintenance:

Load monitoring: Ensure that the actual operating conditions are within the rated torque range of the gearbox, and avoid the impact load caused by frequent start stop.

Lubrication inspection: Overload often accompanies poor lubrication, and it is necessary to regularly check the oil level and quality to ensure the use of lubricating oil with the correct viscosity (such as recommending the use of 40 #, 50 # mechanical oil or 70 #, 90 # extreme pressure gear oil at room temperature).

Timely shutdown: Once abnormal temperature rise or abnormal noise is detected, the machine should be shut down immediately for troubleshooting. Do not forcefully operate to avoid secondary damage.
