1. Pre-adjustment Preparation

Cleaning and Inspection

Fully clean bearings, shaft journals and mating mounting surfaces. Remove burrs and contaminants to guarantee no residual foreign matter. Inspect bearing conditions including wear and cracks. Replace bearings as a matched set if defects are found.


Tool Preparation

Get measuring instruments ready, including torque wrenches, dial indicators and feeler gauges, and verify their calibration status. Refer to the equipment manual to confirm preload technical specifications, such as allowable axial clearance range and tightening torque values.

2. Bearing Preload Adjustment Procedures

Preliminary Preloading

Tighten the bearing lock nut preliminarily with a torque wrench to 50% of the rated torque. Check whether the rotating resistance stays consistent.

Precision Adjustment

Axial clearance method: Measure axial displacement via dial indicator, and slowly increase preload until reaching the designed range (0.10~0.20mm for reference). Torque method: Evaluate preload indirectly by measuring rotational resistance torque (1.47-3.43N·m for reference), ideal for batch production.

Locking and Verification

Apply anti-loosening solutions such as cotter pins or thread locker to secure the lock nut and prevent preload loss. Run the reducer for 30 minutes, then recheck temperature rise and vibration levels. Readjust immediately if abnormal conditions occur.

3. Critical Notes

Preload Control

Excessive preload will trigger bearing overheating and premature fatigue failure. Insufficient preload results in axial shaft movement. Tapered roller bearings must be adjusted in pairs to achieve even preload distribution.

Maintenance Recommendations

Recheck bearing preload after 100 hours of operation for new units. Carry out periodic inspections every 1000 hours afterwards. Keep the assembly environment clean during lubricant replacement to avoid impurities interfering with preload performance.

4. Special Case Handling

Differential bearing setup: For assemblies with differential structures, tune preload by modifying shim thickness or adjusting threaded ring angle (ΔL=0.1~0.3mm for reference). Gear meshing check: After finishing bearing preload adjustment, inspect gear backlash and contact pattern synchronously.
