How Motor Power Impacts Load Matching of Medium Hard Tooth Surface Gear Reducers in ZSC

Motor power exerts a decisive influence on load matching of ZSC gear reducers. ZSC gear reducers are commonly used in heavy machinery such as cranes and winches. Improper power matching will not only affect equipment operation but also cause direct damage to the reducer.

The specific impacts are mainly reflected in the following two aspects:

  1. Insufficient motor power ("small horse pulling a heavy cart") When the motor power is inadequate, the system is forced to operate under overload conditions to drive the rated load, resulting in severe physical damage to the ZSC reducer: Gear damage (plastic deformation or tooth breakage): If the motor cannot drive the load (such as stall conditions), the instantaneous torque may reach 3 to 5 times the rated value. Gears inside the ZSC reducer bear impact loads far exceeding design limits, which can easily lead to tooth surface collapse (plastic deformation) or even direct tooth fracture. Sharp reduction in bearing service life: Massive impact forces push the contact stress between bearing rollers and raceways beyond material limits, causing pitting or spalling. This can slash the reducer’s designed service life from the original 10,000 hours to less than 2,000 hours. Stuttering operation and reduced precision: Rotational speed drops abruptly under loaded conditions, resulting in stuttering or crawling of the transmission system, which seriously impairs equipment running stability and positioning accuracy.
  2. Excessive motor power ("large horse pulling a light cart") Although high-power motors can guarantee load operation, long-term operation under this mismatched condition brings waste and hidden risks: Sharp increase in energy consumption: Motor efficiency drops significantly when running at light loads (below 50% rated power, potentially under 70%). For instance, using an 11 kW motor to drive a load that only requires 5.5 kW may reduce actual operating efficiency from 90% to 65%, greatly raising electricity costs. Premature wear of the reducer: High-power motors deliver higher rated torque. If this excess torque continuously acts on the ZSC reducer, it increases impact loads during gear meshing, breaks the lubricating oil film and triggers scuffing on gear surfaces (direct metal-to-metal friction). Meanwhile, excessive stress tends to deform the coupling connecting the output shaft and load, inducing vibration and noise.
