How to determine whether the gearbox frame needs to be painted
To determine whether the gearbox frame needs to be repainted, a comprehensive evaluation can be conducted from four dimensions: the degree of corrosion on the appearance, the damage status of the paint film, the operating environment requirements, and the equipment maintenance cycle.
1、 Observe surface corrosion and rusting conditions
This is the most intuitive criterion for judgment:
Red rust or rust spots appear: If obvious red rust can be seen on the surface of the rack, it indicates that the anti rust layer has failed and the metal substrate is being oxidized. At this point, it is necessary to remove rust and repaint as soon as possible, otherwise rust will penetrate into the interior and affect the strength of the frame.

Pitting or pockmarks: If rust is not just surface floating rust, but forms small pits (pockmarks), it indicates that the corrosion is already quite severe and requires immediate polishing, repair, and painting.
2、 Check the aging status of the paint film
Even without obvious red rust, the aging of the paint film itself will lose its protective effect:
Powdering and fading: Rub the paint surface with your fingers. If there is a large amount of paint powder on your fingers, or if the color is severely white or faded, it indicates that the resin in the paint film has decomposed and lost its sealing and protective ability.
Cracking and peeling: Small cracks resembling dry soil appear on the paint surface, or the edges of the paint peel and peel off. In this case, moisture can easily enter the metal surface through cracks. It is recommended to remove the old paint and spray it again.
Bubbling: Small bumps on the surface of the paint film, usually caused by internal rust or residual solvent evaporation. Gently press with a hard object. If the paint bubble ruptures or falls off, it needs to be treated.
3、 Assess the impact of the operating environment
The environment in which the gearbox is located determines the urgency of painting:
High corrosion environment: If the gearbox operates in chemical, coastal (high salt spray), humid and rainy, or high pH environments, the protective life of the paint film will be greatly shortened. Even if the appearance looks acceptable, if minor flaws are found in certain areas, it is recommended to perform preventive repainting in advance.
Food or cleanroom: If the equipment is used in industries such as food and medicine, the external cleanliness requirements are extremely high. Once there is a risk of peeling off the paint surface (which may fall into the product), regardless of the degree of rust, it must be repainted.
4、 Combined with equipment maintenance cycle
Overhaul or refurbishment: If the gearbox is undergoing regular disassembly and overhaul (replacing bearings, gears, etc.), it is usually recommended to repaint the frame at the same time. This is not only for aesthetics, but also to provide new protection before the equipment is put back into use.
