Product Description

The AXR series is the latest generation of multipurpose rib-cooled motors, delivering high power density, easy configuration and built-in serviceability. Building on decades of electric motor manufacturing experience, these motors set a new industry benchmark by achieving more watts per kilogram than any previous rib-cooled design.

Thanks to this high power density, a given output can often be delivered in a frame size one step smaller than conventional motors, saving space and enabling more compact installations. AXR motors comply with major industry standards including API 541 and Shell DEP, as well as customer-specific specifications.

Mounting Arrangements

Enclosure and Cooling

IC411 / IP55 (standard) — AXR motors are fitted with an external shaft-mounted fan using the surrounding air for cooling. The motors are protected against dust and water jets.

IC416 / IP55 — AXR motors are also available with IC416 cooling. An additional motor drives the cooling fan, providing the cooling required for low-speed applications, particularly when the motor is fed via a variable speed drive.

Protection ratings:

IP55 — Dust protection: small amounts of dust may enter, but not enough to interfere with operation. Water-jet protection: water sprayed against the motor from any direction causes no harmful effect.
IP66 — Dust protection: enclosure is completely dust-tight. Water-jet protection: powerful jets (12.5 mm nozzle) directed against the enclosure from any direction cause no harmful effect.

Cooling method (IC411):

Frame surface cooled: the primary coolant circulates in a closed circuit inside the motor and transfers heat through the external surface (in addition to heat transfer via the stator core and other heat-conducting parts) to the surrounding medium. The surface may be plain or ribbed, with or without an outer shell to improve heat transfer.
Self-circulation: the coolant moves in step with the rotational speed of the main motor — either by the action of the rotor alone, by a component mounted directly on the rotor, or by a fan/pump unit mechanically driven by the rotor or main motor.
