Product Description

1. Product Overview

The AXR series is the latest generation of multipurpose rib-cooled motors, delivering high power density, easy configurability, and built-in serviceability. Built on years of electric motor manufacturing experience, AXR motors set a new industry benchmark, offering more watts per kilogram than ever achieved before with rib-cooled motors. This high power density means that for a given output, you can often select a motor one frame size smaller than with conventional products — saving space and enabling more compact installations.

AXR motors comply with major industry standards, including API 541 and Shell DEP, as well as customer specifications. They feature a rugged cast iron frame with IC411 cooling and IP55 protection as standard. Motors are also available with IC416 cooling and optional IP66 protection, with IP66 verified by a leading independent testing organization.

AXR motors cover an output range of up to 1,800 kW and are available in shaft heights from 315 to 500 mm, supporting both horizontal and vertical mounting. Technical data is provided for both 50 Hz and 60 Hz operation, with synchronous speeds from 500 to 3,600 rpm.

3. Enclosure and Cooling

IC411 / IP55 — AXR motors feature an external shaft-mounted fan that uses surrounding air for cooling, and are protected against dust and water jets.

IC416 / IP55 — Available with IC416 cooling, where an additional motor drives the cooling fan. This is ideal for low-speed applications, especially when the motor is fed via a variable speed drive.

Protection Ratings

IP55: Dust-protected — some dust may enter but not in quantities sufficient to interfere with operation; protected against water jets projected from any direction.
IP66: Completely dust-tight; protected against powerful water jets (12.5 mm nozzle) from any direction.

Cooling Method (IC411)

Frame surface cooled: the primary coolant circulates in a closed circuit, transferring heat through the external surface of the motor to the surrounding medium. The surface may be plain or ribbed, with or without an outer shell.
Self circulation: the coolant is moved by the rotational speed of the main motor — via the rotor, a component mounted directly on the rotor, or a fan/pump mechanically driven by the rotor.
